KATHY'S PICs
Orange County Voting Recommendations from Conservative Kathy Dittner
I am a Christian conservative who has spent hours
researching candidates and issues. My "Pics" reflect a
viewpoint that is pro-life, pro-family, pro-constitution, pro-choice
in education, and decentralized and limited government in both size
and spending. I generally do not recommend anyone from the Democratic
Party, as it does not reflect the values and issues I support. The
American Independent Party is generally ipro-life and pro-family, and
occasionally I must choose principle over party and register a
protest vote, although third party candidates do not get enough votes
to influence an election.

STATE
PROPOSITIONS
Proposition – 98
YES.
This
measure restores constitutional protection against eminent domain
abuses and would protect any house of worship, small business, family
farms or investment properties from being taken for private use.
Prohibits rent control for new renters, but allows existing renters
to enjoy rent control until they move (similar to Prop 13, allowing
homeowners to keep the 2% property tax increase if you remain in your
home)
Why
do we need Prop. 98? In 2005, the U.S. Supreme Court's
"Kelo" decision upheld governments' rights to take private
property for economic development (translation: take homes and small
business and build shopping centers to increase property taxes).
Although Orange County passed eminent domain protection,(Measure M)
in 2006, we still need to pass Prop 98 to protect the whole state.
Endorsements
for PROP 98:
Senator
Tom McClintock, Assembly Members Chuck DeVore and Mimi Walters,
Capitol Resource Institute, Traditional Values Coalition, California
Republican Taxpayers Association, California Taxpayer Protection
Committee, Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, National Tax
Limitation Committee, National Taxpayers Union.
Proposition – 99 NO.
This
measure protects only owner-occupied homes that have been the primary
residence for 1 year. There is no business, farmland or church
protection.. There is a "poison pill" that if this wins, it would
void the protection of Prop 98. Thus, government would be free to
take churches, small businesses, and family farms for private use. If
Prop 99 passes by more votes than 98, Prop 98 will not take effect.
This
proposition is smoke and mirrors trying to cloud true protection
(Prop 98) of private property from eminent domain! "Prop.
99 is backed by League of California Cities, California State
Association of Counties, and the California Redevelopment
Association.
