TRADITIONAL VALUES COALITION
CALIFORNIA BALLOT PROPOSITIONS
JUNE 3, 2008 PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY ELECTION

YES   PROP. 98   Government Acquisition, Regulation of Private Property.
Constitutional Amendment.
Do not be fooled! Prop 98 OFFERS THE ONLY TRUE protection for your home, business, farmland and your place of worship from being unjustly taken by the government, being bulldozed and having strip malls built in their place.

The people who are opposing Prop 98 are the very same people who are trying to abuse "eminent domain" and take people's homes or businesses or church property so they can build strip malls, Costco's, Wal-Mart's, etc. It is the League of California Cities, county officials, and big developer companies that are giving huge amounts of money to defeat Prop 98. It is their hope that Prop 98 fails and Prop 99 passes. You see, Prop 99 benefits them while Prop 98 benefits you as a home owner, renter, business owner and churchgoer.

The US Supreme Court ruled in 2005 in the Kelo case that local government can seize privately owned property and give it to another privately owned entity for so-called "public use." Since this ruling, local cities, counties, school districts and more have been using "eminent domain" to take prime land that is privately owned and allow for private corporations to build on it so they can get the increase in sales and property taxes.

Eminent domain was intended for true public use of land that benefits the community, not a sole private corporation. Prop 98 would require that the government pay the property owner full compensation and value of any land that is seized.

Churches have already been targeted since they do not pay taxes. Cottonwood Christian Center in Cypress, CA was threatened with "eminent domain" and sold their land to the city so that a Costco could be built in its place. In 2006 the Filipino Baptist Church in Long Beach was condemned by the Redevelopment Agency so that condominiums could be built in its place.

The City of Baldwin Park, CA is expediting "eminent domain" proceedings against 500 home & business owners so that a huge development, the size of over 125 football fields, can be built. The big developer of this project is urging the city to seize the homes and businesses before the June 2008 Primary so Prop 98 does not affect them. And it is reported that the developer contributed thousands of dollars to influence that city's elections.

Do not fall for the lies being spread by Prop 98's opponents. This measure will not threaten rent control, will not cause people to be evicted from apartments, nor will it threaten the environment.

Furthermore, Prop 98 would prevent the government from weakening Prop 13's tax protections. If Prop 98 fails then tax collectors could get around Prop 13's protections which allow them to reap huge property tax increases on newly seized property.

Prop 98 PROTECTS ALL private property, homes, businesses, churches and farmland from unjust eminent domain proceedings that are not used for sincere public uses and benefit, like for a park, school, highway, etc.

LET'S TIE THE HANDS OF GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS & PROTECT OUR HOMES, BUSINESSES AND CHURCHES! VOTE YES ON PROP 98!

NO   PROP. 99   Eminent Domain. Acquisition of Owner-Occupied Residence.
Constitutional Amendment.
Prop 99 DOES NOT truly protect private property, homes, businesses, churches or farmland from being unjustly seized by the government.

Remember, the people behind Prop 99 are cities, counties and big developers. Cities and counties want Prop 99 to pass so they can take your home, business or church and then allow a big developer to build a strip mall or a Costco on it. In return, they get higher property tax revenue and sales tax revenue. They have already spent $4 MILLION trying to convince you to defeat Prop 98 and pass Prop 99. They have a lot to lose if Prop 99 fails.

Eminent domain is not being used to benefit the public or get rid of blighted areas, such as building a school, a new highway, a park, redeveloping a run down part of town. Instead it is being used as a scheme for cities, counties and other government entities to raise revenue. If Prop 99 passes then government, big developers and big corporations financially benefit, while we taxpayers lose our land and suffer financially.

Prop 99 was put on the ballot by big developers and their government allies in an effort to defeat and counter Prop 98. Prop 99 WOULD NOT fully protect private property from being seized from the government and given to private interests. The Legislative Analyst Office said that Prop 99 "is not likely to significantly alter current government land acquisition practices." Meaning Prop 99 will NOT fully protect your home from government seizure.

Also, Prop 99 DOES NOT protect businesses, farmland, or places of worship from government seizure. If Prop 99 were to pass the government would have every means possible to take businesses, farmland and churches and have them bulldozed. What's even worse is that under Prop 99 the government would not be forced to fully compensate the business owner, farmer or church for the loss of property.

Please don't be fooled. Prop 99 is NOT the true solution to protecting all private property from government seizure. It is the big corporations, big developers, and greedy government officials who are behind Prop 99. Remember, they are spending MILLIONS to try to fool you into thinking they are on your side. They are not!

SAY NO to BIG CORPORATIONS, to DEVELOPERS and to INTRUSIVE GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS BY VOTING NO ON PROP 99!!!

THE REAL SOLUTION is to VOTE NO on PROP 99 and VOTE YES on PROP 98!!
